LOK SABHA
The government on Friday introduced three bills in Lok Sabha, which seek to overhaul the criminal justice system. Three bills were introduced in Parliament to replace three British-era laws – the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act.
  • The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Bill, 2023 will replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
  • The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Bill, 2023 will replace the Criminal Procedure Act, 1898.
  • The Bharatiya Sakshya (BS) Bill, 2023 will replace the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
